The plateau of Mavros Kambos can be found between Epano Zakros and the area of Skalia, crossing the E4 European long distance path (geotrail 8). It is a beautiful plateau which is home to several small wetlands.
14. Zakathos Plateau
In Zakathos there is the homonymous plateau which is surrounded by the limestones of the Magassa unit. Crops are grown on this plateau.
15. Chandras – Armenoi Plateau
Chandras – Armenoi Plateau is a large plateau that develops at the unconformable contact between the alpine rocks of the Miocene, which prevail on its northwestern edges, and the alpine rocks of the Tripoli and Pindos units, which prevail on its southeastern edges. Within the plateau, an important aquifer grows with a multitude of crops that also produce unique grape varieties. Towards the east there is also the archaeological site of Voila with fountains and springs that are discharged from the contact of the limestones of Pindos on the flysch of Tripoli, giving water from the Minoan years until today.
16. Ziros Plateau
The plateau of Ziros is in the southwestern part of the park and covers a significant area, which is home to the village by the same name, a small seasonal marsh, as well as many crops and human activities.
17. Karrens
In the rocky limestone cliffs of Katsounaki beach one can observe characteristic surface forms of karstic erosion, karrens. They are natural grooves in the exposed surfaces of the limestone, which were caused by the erosive properties of rain water that rolls down them when it rains!
18. Lamnoni Doline
Lamnoni is a small but beautiful plateau east of Ziros in which nature and human activities coexist harmoniously for centuries. It is formed by the karstic erosion of the limestone of the Tripolitsa unit.
