Joined of Sitia Geopak in the Network European Geoparks EGN

 

  

    In the European Geoparks Network (EGN) was included the Sitia. The decision to integrate the Sitia Geopark ratified in the course of 36th meeting of the Coordinating body of the European Geoparks Network, attended Geopark representatives from all over Europe, in the framework of the 13th European Geoparks Conference on carried out in the region of Finland Rokua, from 3 to September 6, 2015

In two weeks the standard expected and integration into the Global Geoparks Network of which will be held at the meeting of the World Geopakon office in Japan.

The announcement was made Saturday, September 5th at the final closing tou13ou European Geoparks Conference by Dr. Nikolaos Zouros President of GGN Association, EGN Coordinator and Director of the Petrified Forest of Lesvos.

The final phase of the candidacy of the application evaluation process of Sitia Geopark included a detailed discussion of the expert report after the site visit to Sitia to which participated Dr. Andrea Schueller from Geopark Vulkaneifel Germany and Dr. Yuan Zheng from China between 13 and 18 July 2015.

The application dossier of the Sitia Geopark was presented in November 2014 to the competent Secretariat of the European Geoparks Network and UNESCO, from the DOKAS, Responsible management institution of the  Geopark, by decision of the Municipal Council of Sitia.
